Once considered rare in recent times there have been major finds of Uvite at Brumado, Brazil and Pierrepont, New York. From Brazil they are either red or green, the New York Uvites are black. Uvite is an uncommon member of the tourmaline family of minerals. In mineralogy we call them groups and the tourmaline group includes: elbaite known for it colorful array of colors famously the watermelon variety, dravite - the stubby root beer brown variety and schorl, the black variety. There are other far rarer varieties which I offer from time to time
Origins: from Brumado, Bahia, Brazil, South America
