Perovskite variety Dysanalyte, the Niobium rich titanium mineral, partially pseudomorphed by yellow anatase. Crystal Thumbnail Specimen for the expert mineral collector.
Dimensions (millimeters): 10 x 10 x 10 (small thumbnail mineral specimen)
Dimensions (inches): .4 x .4 x .4 (petite earth mineral)
Origins: Perovskite Hill, Magnet Cove, Arkansas, USA
Field collected by Mr. Clyde Hardin, the renowned expert in Magnet Cove digging.
Perovskite has the ability to absorb sunlight and generate electricity, a natural form of a photovoltaic cell (solar cell). The mineral is currently under development for use in solar cells, displays, and catalytic converters.
Niobium's name comes from Greek mythology, specifically Niobe, who was the daughter of Tantalus, the namesake of tantalum. The name reflects the great similarity between the two elements in their physical and chemical properties, making them difficult to distinguish.
